After saying that she wouldn't trigger a General Election, Theresa May triggered a General Election. This is just one of many u-turns that our current Prime Minister has made, since she moved into number ten.
Whilst looking at constructed images and photo montage, I wanted to produce something that addressed the current political climate. John Heartfield's work gave me a lot of inspiration.
Using Photoshop, I produced a montage of found images of Theresa May. I purposely chose headshots, from different angles. This was to highlight the idea of turning in different directions. At first I wanted to produce a photomontage of the Prime Minister looking in different directions. However, while I was layering the images, I thought of the 'No u-turn' road sign. I thought this would work well as a mask over the final image (above).
Now that we live in a world dominated by icons, emojis and symbols, I thought it was a modern day twist on Heartfield's imagery. I am thinking of continuing this as a personal project called 'Sign of the Times'., whereby a mask of a road sign is used over photo montages that relate to current affairs.
