Last week, I received an email informing me that Smugmug was taking over Flickr. Up until then, I had almost forgotten about my Flickr account.
Over eleven years ago, I signed up for a Flickr account. It was a place to go after updating my MySpace account. In fact, it was the community aspect of Flickr that appealed to me. You could join groups and have people comment on your photographs. I wanted to say things with my photography and Flickr provided the audience and feedback.
After uploading over 3000 images to the site, and the recent 1TB allowance for each pro user, Flickr had become a space to back-up my vast array of digital images.
Sites like Facebook and Instagram provided a similar experience which offered more than just a place to store your images. It has been over a year since I uploaded anything to Flickr so it’s probably time for me to cancel my subscription and delete my account.
