For the 'People Unaware' module I have just started to read Street Photography Now, by Sophie Howarth and Stephen McLaren. The blurb on the back cover includes a quote from Martin Parr, who believes that:
Street Photography Now brings what many thought a tired genre bang up to date. Truly international, it will become the new defining guide to street photography.
So, if Martin Parr thinks the book is good, then it must be good! The book itself is quite large and has a good balance between photographs and commentary. If portrait photography was based on taking time to pose the subject then street photography is at the opposite end of the spectrum, with sometimes only a split second to capture a unique moment. The scene is constantly changing and the photographer needs to be on the lookout for potential opportunities. Hopefully this book will help me to understand the type of photographs that can be achieved.
